Karmea tappelu!

Tunkeilijoita pöntössä. Ensin kävi sinitiaispariskunta. Toinen niistä joutui tappeluun talitiaisemon kanssa tämän saavuttua pönttöön. Pahalta näyttänyt tilanne kuitenkin päätyi sinitiaisen poistumiseen pöntöstä lentokuntoisena. Mahdollisista vammoista ei tietoa.

Intruders in the nest box. First, a pair of blue tits visited. One of them got into a fight with the great tit mother when she arrived at the box. However, the situation, which looked dire, ended with the blue tit leaving the nest box in a flying condition. No information on possible injuries.

Vähän tämän jälkeen pönttöön tuli kirjosieppokoiras. On hyvin tavallista, että se käy tutkimassa kaikki pöntöt, riippumatta siitä, ovatko ne jo asuttuja vai eivät. Se voi jopa rakentaa oman pesänsä tiaisen pesän päälle, vaikka siellä olisi jo munia tai jopa poikasia. 

A little while later, a male pied flycatcher entered the nest box. It's quite common for them to inspect all nest boxes, regardless of whether they're already occupied or not. They may even build their own nest on top of a tit's nest, even if there are already eggs or even chicks present."

Tästä tappelusta tuli vielä uhkaavamman näköinen. Hetken jo näytti siltä, että kirjosieppo olisi kuollut. Se kuitenkin virkosi ja sinitiaisen tavoin poistui lentukuntoisena. Koko nujakka kesti silti kolmisen tuntia. Molemmat linnut olivat hyvin väsyneitä ja lopuksi talitiainen kävikin nukkumaan, mitä se normaalisti ei päiväsaikaan tee, paitsi haudontavaiheessa.

This fight seemed even more threatening. For a moment, it appeared that the pied flycatcher had died. However, it revived and, like the blue tit, left the box in a flying condition. The entire situation lasted about three hours. Both birds were very tired, and in the end, the great tit went to sleep, something it normally doesn't do during the day, except during the incubating phase.

Lähialueella on edelleen vapaita pönttöjä, en tiedä miksi juuri tämä kiinnostaa näin paljon. Taidan kuitenkin käydä huomenna kiinnittämässä jonkun 28 millisen pöntön pihapiiriin, jos niitä kellarista löytyy. Nämä tappelut eivät tietenkään ole toivottavia, vaikka niitä kyllä luonnossa esiintyykin. Ei ole tavatonta, että tunkeilija kuolee pesän haltijan käsittelyssä. Onneksi nyt ei käynyt niin. Tämä on ensimmäinen kerta yli kahteenkymmeneen vuoteen, kun tässä paikassa on näin raju tappelu todettu. Onhan niitä voinut olla, mutta nyt kun kamera tallentaa 24/7, kaikki tapahtumat jäävät talteen.

In the vicinity, there are still empty nest boxes. I don't know why this particular one is so intriguing. Nevertheless, I might go tomorrow and install a 28-millimeter box in the yard if I still have any in the basement. These fights are, of course, not desirable, although they do occur in nature. It's not uncommon for the intruder to be killed by the nest owner. Fortunately, that didn't happen this time. This is the first time in over twenty years that such a fierce fight has been observed in this location. There may have been others, but now that the camera records 24/7, all events are captured.
